A five week, very slow cruise, to Reading Goal.

1998

Another long September Cruise

The trouble with starting on a long cruise is the fact that few people can spare the time from work to accompany you. This fact dictated the speed that we had to travel. One of my sons crewed as far as Oxford another son carried the journey on to Reading and my partner agreed to cruise as far back as Sutton's Stop on the Northern Oxford Canal.

. .

The journey started well and the weather was perfect. From Sawley we turned into the Trent and entered the Trent and Mersey at Derwent Lock. Our first night was spent at Shardlow.

Journey's End:

Outside ! Reading Goal taken just before we went to a wedding.
Moored at a public wharf for which there is a charge.
